Receiving we had covered, more or less, in a binder. What we didn’t have was the ingredient side — which supplier, which lot, for every batch we made. That’s the part CFIA asks about and the part we couldn’t answer. Now it’s just there.

What traceability records does the SFCR require?
Section 90(1) of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations asks for four things on every lot: the common name and lot code with your business name; who you provided the food to and when; who you received it from and when; and every ingredient together with the supplier of each. Safe Food Tool captures all four from one photograph of the label.
How quickly do I have to produce records for CFIA?
Within 24 hours of the request, in a form the Canadian Food Inspection Agency can read electronically. That is the deadline the whole product is built around — the export is one tap, not an afternoon in a filing cabinet.
How long must Canadian food traceability records be kept?
A minimum of two years, and they have to be accessible from inside Canada. Every record Safe Food Tool saves carries its own retain-until date, calculated from the day it was captured.
